Common Brushtail Possum

Out of all the possum species in Mount Evelyn and the surrounding area the Common Brushtail Possum is the most commonly encountered possum for example while taking a stroll and seeing one on a telephone pole, having a curious individual visit a balcony or perhaps annoyingly (to some people) having them run across your roof at night.

It comes in many different colours the most common is grey but they can also appear in brown, black, red or golden (cream).

Weighing up to 4.5 kilograms the Common Brushtail is only the second-largest out of all the possum species losing first place to the Bear Cuscus a species only found in Indonesia and tying for second place with its close relative the Bobuck.
